In honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility, Gladstone hosted three accomplished scientists to present their research and how it relates to better understanding the biology of gender and health disparities in the transgender community.
Luis Gutierrez-Mock, MPH, MA, is the project director for TRIUMPH, a community-led PrEP project at the Center of Excellence for Transgender Health at UC San Francisco. He previously worked on a CDC-funded project to promote knowledgeable, sensitive, and effective HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention services for trans communities.
Karissa Sanbonmatsu, PhD, is a principal investigator at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Her research investigates the molecular mechanisms by which epigenetic memories are written and stored in DNA and RNA, and how these relate to our understanding of social and environmental impacts on identity and development.
Charlotte Tate, PhD, is an associate professor of psychology at San Francisco State University. Her research investigates the constellation of psychological constructs and social experiences that count as “gender” in the United States, and how to better conceptualize, measure, and statistically model these experiences in basic behavioral science in ways that integrate cisgender and transgender spectrum lived experiences.
