Gladstone-UCSF Institute of Genomic Immunology Seminar
Michael Birnbaum, PhD
Michael Birnbaum, PhD, is an associate professor of biological engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Birnbaum received his bachelor's degree in chemical and physical biology from Harvard University and his PhD from Stanford University working with Chris Garcia.
The Birnbaum Laboratory focuses on understanding and manipulating immune recognition in the contexts of cancer and infection with the goal of rationally engineering new methods to more specifically and potently mount immune responses. The team is also interested in adapting what they learn about immune recognition to better understand other systems that rely upon diverse molecular recognition, as well as to engineer novel, diverse protein repertoire systems.
