Brian Hie, PhD
Brian Hie is an assistant professor of chemical engineering and data science at Stanford University, and an innovation investigator at Arc Institute. Hie supervises the Laboratory of Evolutionary Design, which conducts research at the intersection of biology and machine learning.
The mission of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Design is to ensure that the AI revolution in biology occurs in a way that benefits humanity. They aim to design biology that counteracts evolving threats and accomplishes useful new functions.
Hie was previously a Stanford science fellow in the Stanford University School of Medicine and a visiting researcher at Meta AI. He completed his PhD at MIT CSAIL and was an undergraduate at Stanford University. He also previously worked at Google X, Illumina, and Salesforce.
