Vacation Time
Gladstone offers a competitive and generous vacation leave policy:
- If you’re joining Gladstone as a salaried exempt or non-exempt employee you’ll accrue vacation time at a monthly rate determined by your length of employment and the hours you’re regularly scheduled to work.
- Vacation time starts to accrue beginning the first of the month following the date of employment.
- If you’re coming on as a vice president, institute director, or investigator, you’ll receive the maximum accrual rate, regardless of years of service.
- If you’re a graduate student, you won’t be eligible for vacation benefits.
Vacation Accrual Rates

| 5-9 | 18 days a year, accrued at 12 hours per month. Can accrue a maximum of 288 hours |
| 10-14 | 21 days a year, accrued at 14 hours per month. Can accrue a maximum of 336 hours |
| 15+ | 24 days a year, accrued at 16 hours per month. Can accrue a maximum of 384 hours |
Sick Leave
Gladstone’s sick leave policy ensures you can take care of yourself or your family members in times of sickness or for preventative care.
- If you’re joining Gladstone as an exempt or non-exempt employee you are eligible to earn sick time.
- If you’re full time, you’ll earn sick time at a rate of 8 hours per month.
- If you’re part time, the sick time you earn will be prorated.
- If you’re joining Gladstone as an hourly employee or as a graduate student on the payroll, you’ll accrue sick time based on San Francisco’s Sick Leave Ordinance—1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked.
- The maximum amount of sick leave you can accrue is 96 hours.

Gladstone observes 14 paid holidays each calendar year.
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Presidents’ Day
- Memorial Day
- Juneteenth
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day and the Following Friday (2 days)
- Winter Break—Christmas Day through New Year’s Eve (5 days)
