Bill Lindstaedt

Assistant Vice Chancellor, Career Advancement, International and Postdoctoral Services, UC San Francisco

Job hunting in industry might seem like a mysterious or overwhelming task, but there are specific skills you can learn to make the process approachable and successful. In this workshop, Bill Lindstaedt breaks down how to successfully negotiate your industry scientist job offer.

You'll learn how to respond to these difficult questions:

  • What are your salary requirements?
  • What components of the job offer are negotiable, such as salary, vacation, bonuses, stock, moving expenses?
  • How do you ask for more salary when the offer is already doubling your current postdoc or student salary?
  • What do the stock options and vesting schedule mean? Should you ask for more?

About the Speaker

Bill Lindstaedt has been helping scientists and engineers make career decisions for more than 25 years. Since 2001, his career advising practice has focused exclusively on the needs of PhD level scientists. Specifically, he has developed particular expertise working with biomedical scientists as they transition from academic positions to careers in biotech and other non-academic settings.
