Sian Owen, PhD

Research Fellow in Biomedical Informatics, Harvard Medical School

“Phages in Technicolor: Innovating Virus Discovery to Combat Antibiotic Resistance and More”

Siân Owen is a microbiologist who studies bacteria through the lens of their viruses: phages. She was a graduate student with Professor Jay Hinton at the University of Liverpool, UK, and is currently a postdoctoral fellow with Professor Michael Baym at Harvard Medical School. Her work has included discovery of prophage-encoded phage defense systems, understanding the impact of prophages on antibiotic sensitivity in bacteria; and exploration of phages that parasitize antibiotic resistance plasmids.

This is an in-person meeting, if you are unable to attend in person and would like to join via zoom, reach out to Veronica Fonseca.
