Data Science Training Program
April 20-April 21, 2026

Natalie Gill

Bioinformatician II

Whether you're new to AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT or already using them in your research, this hands-on workshop will help you get more out of them.

You'll learn how to communicate effectively with AI tools through the "4 Ds" framework: Delegation (knowing when AI can help), Description (crafting effective prompts), Discernment (critically evaluating AI outputs), and Diligence (using AI ethically and responsibly). No coding or programming involved. While we'll use Claude for demonstrations, these skills transfer across AI tools and will remain relevant as the technology evolves.

By the end of this workshop you should be comfortable with:

  • Identifying tasks that are well-suited for AI assistance
  • Writing clear, effective prompts to get useful results
  • Evaluating AI outputs for accuracy and appropriateness
  • Recognizing limitations and potential biases in AI responses
  • Applying ethical best practices when using AI in research

Prerequisites: No prior AI or programming experience required. Participants need only a laptop and a free Claude account (sign up at claude.ai). Please register for the workshop using the same email address associated with your Claude account.

Visit the workshop site for more details and materials.

The Gladstone Data Science Training Program was started in 2018 to provide trainees with learning opportunities and hands-on workshops to improve their skills in bioinformatics and computational analysis. This program offers a series of workshops throughout the year to enable trainees to gain new skills and get support with their questions and data.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Gladstone, we are committed to providing events and professional development activities that resonate with our community’s diverse members. Our goal is to develop creative programming that encompasses a wide variety of ideas and perspectives to inspire, educate, and engage with everyone within our walls.

We want to effect positive change through our events and activities by providing a platform for discussions on important topics related to increasing diversity and inclusiveness in the sciences.
