Juneteenth
June 15-June 22, 2023

June 19, 1865, was the day that federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free. This came 2½ years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. By the end of 1865, slavery was officially abolished in the United States with the adoption of the 13th amendment.

A year later, freed people in Texas organized the first celebration of “Jubilee Day” on June 19, which has now come to be known as Juneteenth.

To honor Juneteenth, Gladstone’s community group, Elevated Voices, is hosting an in-person Black History Timeline experience.

Stop by to learn about the major milestones in Black American History from Juneteenth to today. The museum will be on display from June 15 to June 22, 2023, in the lobby. Feel free to walk through anytime during your workday.
