Gladstone Institutes honored fourteen members of its community with awards recognizing their extraordinary leadership and research.

 

On June 3, 2016, Gladstone Institutes hosted its annual Awards of Excellence in Science and Leadership. The celebration recognized members of the Gladstone community for their accomplishments in research and leadership in the quest to eradicate disease with science. 

“What a remarkable day this was,” said R. Sanders Williams, MD, president of Gladstone. “The entire Gladstone community joined together to honor special leadership within the laboratory environment and research achievements by graduate students and postdocs.”

The annual Awards of Excellence event was created in 2010 to accompany Gladstone’s Above & Beyond award program, which recognizes members of the Gladstone community who have gone above and beyond to advance Gladstone’s mission. Winners of the Awards of Excellence are nominated by each of the Institutes and the Convergence Zone at Gladstone based on their extraordinary leadership and research within those entities. The new awards are presented to the winning scientists, primarily postdoctoral scholars and graduate students, each year by the president of Gladstone. 

“I am so proud of all the awardees, and so grateful they are at Gladstone,” said Williams. “It was clear from their presentations, and from the comments made about them by their mentors and our institute directors, that they personify Gladstone’s traditions of scientific excellence and generosity of spirit.”

Each of the award recipients listed below displayed outstanding research and leadership to the Gladstone community, setting an inspirational example for current and future scientists at Gladstone and around the globe.
