Bob Mahley, MD, PhD

Senior Investigator

Bob Mahley is the president emeritus and founder of Gladstone, and his research has contributed important findings to the fields of metabolism, cardiovascular disease, and neurological disease. He and his team defined the role of apolipoprotein (apo) E in cholesterol metabolism and atherosclerosis, which laid the groundwork for the explosion of research linking a variant of apoE—apoE4—to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. Bob continues to contribute to the elucidation of the role of apoE4 in Alzheimer’s disease. In this seminar he will share his 30-year involvement in the Turkish Heart Study, through which he established a Gladstone laboratory in Istanbul.
