Elevated Voices
On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and that all enslaved people were free. The anniversary of this date became an annual celebration in Texas known as Jubilee Day or Juneteenth.
Over the last several years, Juneteenth has increased in popularity and become a holiday celebrated all over the United States, commemorating a date of freedom for all Americans.
In honor of this important holiday, gather together with your fellow Gladstonians to celebrate. Join for food from local Black-owned restaurants, lawn games, and music.
