Kim Tran, PhD

Consultant and Author

Over the course of history, the oppression of Asian people in this country has remained fundamental to American social structure. Members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community often experience, and are impacted, by this reality. In this session, we will educate ourselves on the long history of the Asian American experience through the model minority myth and other oppressive stereotypes. We will consider the complexities of intersectionality, power, and oppression in the current political landscape. Finally, we will create a tool kit for self-empowerment and develop practical strategies for Asian Americans.
