Gladstone scientists are world leaders in developing experimental technology and computational tools. These strengths are being leveraged to expand technology-oriented science across Gladstone. 

Science—like many aspects of our lives—has become so data rich that the primary challenge is how to analyze, integrate, and interpret all of the information. Innovative and sophisticated computational methods are needed to extract useful knowledge from the massive data sets collected from modern experiments. At Gladstone, scientists with expertise in statistics, computer science, and mathematics work along side bench scientists to develop the computational frameworks to meet this challenge. 

Our scientists also bring extraordinary expertise in mass spectroscopy and systems analysis of protein-protein and genetic interactions. These efforts are supported by a state-of-the-art mass spectroscopy facility, the product of a recent alliance between Gladstone, the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Thermo Fisher Scientific. This facility is an example of how convergence also means that our scientists have access to the best possible tools. 

Powerful new research technologies are emerging at an unprecedented rate, but many years may elapse between invention and broad availability in the research community. The required capital investments also often exceed the capacity of any single laboratory. Gladstone is making a concerted effort to find, create, and use cutting-edge technologies. 

Convergence Science at Gladstone has a unique structure. While it exists in a physically distinct area, its spirit pervades the entire organization. Currently, this area of expertise includes two core investigators. In the future, it will expand as new scientists join Gladstone, who will contribute to multiple disease areas and develop new research technologies and platforms that will benefit all of Gladstone and beyond.
